Carmelites Celebrate 800 Years of following the Rule of Carmel

October 2-6, 2008

Fr. Fabian Maria, O. Carm., Prior of Mount Carmel Hermitage hosted Fr. John Mary Burns, O. Carm. and Fr. Elias O'Brien, O. Carm. for a gathering commemorating the 800th Anniversary of the Rule of Carmel.  Believed to have occurred in 1208, the first Hermits on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land received the Rule from St. Albert, Patriarch of Jerusalem.  Fr. John Mary is the Prior of the Carmelite Hermitage in Lake Elmo, MN.  Fr. O'Brien shared some insights from his intensive study about this fruitful period in time, shedding light upon the inspiration behind the beginnings of the first Carmelites.
